Moorfoot Primary School

Elder and Cannon were appointed by Inverclyde Council via HubWest Scotland for the comprehensive refurbishment of Moorfoot Primary in Gourock, a combined mainstream and deaf school with nursery. In addition to its deteriorating fabric and stepped level arrangement, the school suffered from narrow corridors and poor environmental qualities for learning.

A number of modest yet significant interventions have transformed the school, the relocation of ancillary rooms cleared the corridor spaces to become large flexible learning spaces, a new open-plan and extended Library space relieved congestion in the heart of the school, and the main entrance area and office lowered to achieve level access throughout, achieving a far more generous and enjoyable facility.

The interior specifications are designed to support deaf users in all areas, with highly controlled acoustics and enhanced teaching aids provided across the school.
