Dougrie Drive

This development provides 130 affordable homes for Glasgow Housing Association with associated access and amenity spaces, and benefitting from their adjacency to Castlemilk shopping centre.
The scheme creates a rich variety of living and external spaces by deploying three main building types in response to the constraints and opportunities of the site. Large courtyard blocks at one end and traditional terraced housing at the other, bookend the main run of ‘courtyard clusters’ - small buildings of semi-detached houses and cottage flats, grouped around public, semi-private and private external spaces. These create a highly permeable environment, punctuated by the light, air and spectacular views to the city and Campsie Fells beyond, that is afforded by the site’s high vantage point. At the same time the clusters provide a sheltered environment in this exposed locale.

The large courtyard blocks are a relatively new typology, being designed to attract tenants interested in down-sizing and the community environment formed round the attractive garden and common room.
