Bonaly Primary School

A single storey sweep of classrooms is arranged around a courtyard garden with views to the East, West and South over the Pentland hills. The relationship between the square courtyard and the circular sweep of classrooms affords a clear sub-division of each of year groups one to five and their associated crescent shaped roof lit activity spaces. The courtyard garden with its’ visual links to the dining hall, was conceived as a valuable outdoor teaching/resource space and provides framed views of the hills to the south.
The school is offered a civic scale by the entrance, informed by a clearly defined projecting first floor form framed by a stone portal and containing the class bases for the upper two years.
